When should I transplant to a bigger pot?

The hardest thing I have experienced with trying to grow produce is the amount of conflicting information I find. What I've heard is that you want to wait until the second set of true leaves to form so that when you transfer it, it is more like to take to the transfer better. The 2 sets will provide adequate amount of energy to keep the roots growing at a normal pace.

Why do you guys think? Also I'm transferring them to 3in pots to continue growing until I need to harden them.

Those big ones look ready. The two leaves thing is really just a rule of thumb, you can transfer whenever provided you are careful. It’s best though to transplant when it looks like the seedlings will need more space, which these ones will.

Did you put a tree in a blender and plant seeds in it? That soil is… Chunky.

You can transfer a seedling at any point after it germinates, it just survives better after two sets of true leaves.

But they look a bit… Unhappy. They’re only putting out one true leaf at a time, probably ran out of their seed nutrients pushing through your.. blended tree. Have you fertilized them? Also, is there a reason you didn’t fill some of their cells fully? They might need to be transferred sooner rather than later into a soil that’s more conducive to root growth.
