The new pizza spot features Detroit-style pies, including specials and a handful of house recipes that will rotate throughout the year. Black Pony is owned by longtime friends Ryan Murphy and Ken Shick, with Murphy handling the pizza-making and culinary side of the business while Shick manages operations.
According to Black Pony, the idea started with co-owner Ryan Murphy, who has spent more than a decade working in commercial kitchens. Somewhere between prep and service, Murphy started making pizzas, bringing them to parties with family and friends. Their favorites are how the menu for Black Pony was built. According to their website, they plan to regularly introduce new recipes, with the most popular pies making more frequent appearances on the menu.
The current menu includes pies like the I’ll Have Another, topped with red sauce, house cheese blend, Ezzo’s cup & char pepperoni, herbed ricotta, balsamic drizzle, and fresh basil. The Dark Star features white sauce, house cheese, ricotta and herb balsamic mushroom blend.
The featured pizza will rotate throughout the year, and the current special is the Fusaichi Pegasus, with an olive oil base, house cheese blend, char siu pork, strawberry sumac jam, charred scallions, and burrata.
Black Pony Pizza is located at 1001 N. High St. They’re open Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. You can follow them here for updates and announcements.
