Red Chilli Dal-Pandu Mirapakaya Pappu-Lal Mirchi Recipes
Dal or pappu is one of the most common foods of any Indian especially for a south Indian more so for somebody from Telugu states. Dal or pappu is a power house of dish with all the essential proteins.
For many a Red Chilli Dal or Pandu Mirapakaya Pappu is an all time favourite. You must definitely try this Red Chilli Dal with some hot plain rice and ghee. Pandu Mirapakaya Pappu with white rice, ghee, lemon pickle and papad is another super combination. There are many vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes that we can make by using Lal Mirchi. Ingredients:
Tur dal/Toor dal- 1 cup
Water- 3 cups
Turmeric- 1 tsp
Onion-1 big chopped
Tomatoes- 2 big chopped
Red chilli/lal mirchi-10-12 cut into pieces
Tamarind- sufficient soaked
Coriander leaves- few
Salt
For tempering:
Oil- 2 tbsps
Urad dal- 1 tsp
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Cumin- ½ tsp
Fenugreek seeds- very few
Garlic cloves-8 peeled
Dry red chillies- 2 or 3
Curry leaves- few
Hing- little
How to make Lal Mirchi Dal/Red Chilli Dal:
1. Wash and soak 5 minutes toor dal.
2. Chop tomatoes, onions, red chillies/lal mirchi, soak tamarind and peel garlic cloves.
3. In a pressure cooker, add washed toor dal (1 cup), water (3 cups), turmeric, chopped tomatoes, few chopped onions, red chillies, soaked tamarind, and coriander leaves. Cook on medium flame till you get 4 whistles.
4. Then open the cooker lid and mash the dal well by adding salt. If excess water is there in the dal you can drain before mashing the dal. Later you can add this excess water after the dal is mashed.
5. Now for tempering, heat oil in a pan, add all the tempering ingredients one by one, once the tempering is ready add mashed dal into this.
6. Mix dal and tempering well and cook a minute on low flame.
7. Thatās all, red chilli dal/lal mirchi dal is ready to serve with rice and ghee.
