Join us as we go Wandering Out Yonder with our first installment in our new series we will be featuring: Backpacking Meals: Good Food & Recipes!
In this video, we prepare a Chili with Rice Recipe with dehydrated ingredients and provide the recipe for the meal as well. We then take the dry ingredients out on trail and prepare!
Our goal is to provide an easy, comprehensive DIY lightweight yet tasty backpacking meal that can be prepared while on trail or at camp.
Backpacking & Cold Soak Meal Made with Dehydrated Ingredients
Chili w/Rice (Makes about 4 Cups)
½ Cup Mixed Bean Chili Mix (We used Harmony House)
1/8 Cup Tomato Powder (We used Harmony House)
¼ Cup Dried Tomatoes (We used Harmony House)
¼ Cup Beefish Bit (We used Harmony House) Note: “Beefish Bits” is a soy based protein (TVP) that can be used as a substitute for meat in vegetarian dishes. It adds texture & flavor, as a healthy, meatless option for recipes.
½ tsp Cumin
1 T Chili Powder
¼ tsp Garlic Powder
¼ tsp Pepper
1 Package Success Rice in a Bag
16oz Bottle Water
Place all items in a freezer or recyclable bag for transport –
When ready to prepare, place contents and 16oz of water into a portable container. Soak for at least 1 hour.
Cook for approximately 10 minutes or until desired tenderness.
You can add Shredded Mexican Blend Cheese, Fritos or Tortilla Chips/Wraps for Added Flavor!
