For an Australian whose never had real authentic Mexican food, how’d I do?

sorry for the bad lighting, its pollo rojo with Valentina, salsa verde and cebollas curtidas. and of course corn tortillas. i know these things don’t necessarily do together but they were pretty tasty

Good start. Next time, more onion and less Valentina.

  2. goofey1239

Coming from a Mexican. You can make tacos from just about anything. You did great .How did they taste?

  3. tejana948

All that matters is that you enjoyed them!

Looks good! One suggestion for next time is to make pico de gallo as a condiment. Easy to make with just 5 ingredients (minced /white onion, jalapeño, tomato, cilantro & fresh lime juice) and no cooking required. I put it on everything even non-Mexican foods.

    They look good!

Next time try raw white onion, cilantro (coriander leaf), and maybe some sliced radish on the side.

  6. Papi_Espadas

Les falta cebollita y cilantro, pero ahí van 😬😬

  7. LowDig98

A little onion and cilantro would make this look a lot more appetizing. Good job though

  8. enrique_realk

Just needed some coriander and if you’ll use salsa verde don’t use Valentina please

  9. Mister_Pibbs

Looks good! I prefer street style with cilantro and onion, and I’d cook those tortillas up a bit more but it’s a damn good shot at it!

  10. incubusmylove

Those look good! But being in Australia I suggest adapting it a bit where you are. Get some good quality meat and make some carne asada tacos, just work on making a green salsa and that’s it! It’s like tacos 101.

Onions and cilantro make everything better

Tacos are tacos my guy. I’ve made tacos out of everything and anything. My dad is even worse. One time he took his own bag of tortillas to an Italian restaurant and then when we got there, asked them if they had a jalapeño or similar to eat with his chicken parm.

Real tortillas, salsita and limon, you’re almost mexican

  14. whiskey_reddit

If time allows make the tortillas yourself. Not very hard to do and will make a world of difference. Store-bought tortillas are shit and the tortilla is 1/3 of the taco so it needs to be good. Good luck 🙂

  15. ActiveWitness12

Have you tried making the salsa yourself? Btw they look decent 🙂 nice try

  16. WittyAndOriginal

Toast the tortillas next time. Just throw them in a hot pan for ~30 seconds each side

  17. Ishmael203

Looks good, maybe add a pico de gallo as well and some avocado

  18. yeyo1600

They look good, but hold the valentina, use that for snacks

op is it hard to get coriander/cilantro in australia? Anityer question is do you like, or have you ever had coriander? Next time chop up some white onion and cilantro/coriander to garnish. It honestly looks ptetty good all things considered!

Visually they look great. I appreciate the corn tortillas. Some recommendations for next time, toast your tortillas on a flame or pan and try topping them with finely diced white onion and cilantro. The lime is an excellent choice.

Some recommendations for new stuff to try, fish tacos made with Tilapia are great. Slow cooked beef or pork. Or you can even do potatoes. Lots of great recipes online.

  21. Valentina is salsa made for chips, not tacos. I recommend you try looking for salsa Verde it make your own. Also, the tortillas could be more cooked.

  22. rikram101

They don’t look too bad. Good effort. Plus there’s a lime on the plate so you def get some points for that.

  23. It looks good. If you arr interested, for better results, try double torilla, and dip the tortilla into lard before heating in a flat surface, like hotcakes, the salsa you can do with tomato, onion, garlic, salt and any chile, there should be some on a super or similar. Anyway, hope it helps

Mexican here, we don’t usually use salsa valentina on tacos; most of the sauces we use are not store bought, actually, although it’s not unheard of. It gives it a nice touch if you make the sauce yourself, that’s what I’m trying to say.
They look pretty good overall 🙂 try with some onion, and coriander next time ✨

you can make mexican tacos with the ingredients you have at your fingertips, if for example you can buy meat or a cut of meat to roast either on the coals, on a griddle, etc., you roast the meat at the term you like, you cut it into small pieces and with that you make some good roast meat tacos, but you should also add guacamole, a spicy liquid sauce made with tomato, onion and fresh serrano or jalapeño pepper, also a sauce called pico de gallo, this sauce is made with Tomato in small pieces, onion in small pieces and chili already serrano or jalapeño chili in pieces, add the juice of several lemons until it is left with a flavor that seems delicious to you and add salt to your liking, you also add fried onion or whole roasted cambray onions, and rest assured that those roast tacos will be incredible on you and they are true roast meat tacos, that one of the simplest complex tacos there is, but there are other much simpler ones, which is to make them with potatoes with egg, chorizo with egg, asparagus with egg, pork prepared as you like and served in one or double tortilla, and you can add hot sauces and guacamole, other types of tacos such as head, tripe, tongue, al pastor, etc., are more complex and require ingredients that you would have to buy on amazon in stores that are installed in mexico and send the ingredients to australia

  26. Ayayoska

    Great job!
As a tip, Valentina is mainly for snacks here in Mexico, not really proper food.
Can you get another type of spicy salsa or some chipotles?

  27. TheToyDr

Te falta una coronita o una cokita bien fría

  28. Extension-World-7041

As someone currently living in Tijuana > Not even close but I applaud your enthusiasm and effort you put into it.

  29. pm_nudesladies

I make some similar when i get home from work lol

If I have time I throw some diced onion. Warm the tortilla on my moms skillet thing. Some stinky Mexican cheese. Lettuce if you want. Always have a salsa ( my local store down the block sells good ones )
    Avocado

  30. gary_vter10

    You did pretty good.
If u can, try typical tortillas expensive or not, depending on where u live.
    You can add white onion
And try putting oil in a pan with tortillas to make them more crispi

  31. ZestyclosePresent148

    Valentina on tacos is criminal

  32. lumisponder

Not bad. Could be roast chicken tacos. Those tortillas seem to be of a high quality.

It’s generally considered bad form to mix red and green sauces. You might want to try red sauce with *rajas*, longitudinally sliced jalapeños.

  33. Omarsaid1122

Try to make pico de Galo: onion, cilantro, tomatoes with Lime juice

  34. ElSamael-616-

Valentina is Just for snacks not tacos but who the fuck really cares
