Some of the Mexican food I’ve cooked in the past month! starting with chips and guac moving on to salsa roja AKA Salsa brava then pico de gallo making for 20 years and finishing with an American classic taco soup with fresh pico de gallo grilled Mexican green onions with red and green jalapenos

Taco soup isn’t Mexican. That’s more like Tex-Mex.

Soups are more like pozole, menudo, caldo de pollo, caldo de res, sopa de fideos/letras/estrellas/conchas, sopa de siete mares, etc..

Tacos are just tacos to us with corn tortillas & we never made it a soup.

We Texans NEVER use olives in Tex Mex food.

  3. The gatekeeping never fails. Any true lover of Mexican food appreciates the FACT that it’s an amalgamation of many cultures and influences. The very second someone says “that’s not mexican” or “thats not this or that”, I know they don’t truly appreciate what I consider the world’s best cuisine. Everything looks good here.

I smuggled an Old El Paso taco kit down here for mi esposo and had a taco night like my sheet white mama always did. Ground beef, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, fiesta mix cheese and yes, black olives

he actually loved them and said they tasted just like the nachos at Six Flags 😂

Never had taco soup before. It reminds me of frijoles charros.
