Black Pepper Beef – BETTER THAN TAKEOUT

  1. Ingredients
    500g of steak
    1 tbsp of soy sauce
    1 tbsp of Chinese cooking wine
    2 tsp of sesame oil
    1/2 tsp of baking soda
    1 tbsp of cornstarch
    1 tbsp of oil

    Sauce
    1/2 cup of beef stock
    1 tbsp of light soy sauce
    1 tbsp of dark soy sauce
    1 tbsp of oyster sauce
    1 tbsp of Shaoxing wine
    2 tsp of coarsely ground black pepper
    1 tsp of sugar
    1 tbsp of cornstarch
    A pinch of msg

    Stir fry
    2 tbsp of neutral oil
    2 tsp of ginger, minced
    3 cloves garlic , minced
    1/2 brown onion , chopped
    2 bell peppers , chopped (I used mixed colors)

    Garnish:
    Sesame seeds

    Steps:
    1. Marinate the beef with soy sauce, Chinese Cooking Wine, sesame oil, baking soda, cornstarch and cooking oil. Set aside.
    2. In a bowl, combine beef stock, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, black pepper, sugar, corndtarch and msg. Set aside.
    3. In a pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil over high heat.
    4. Add the beef and stir fry the beef until golden brown for 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
    5. Then, heat another 1 tbsp of oil over high heat. Add the garlic and ginger. Stir fry for 1 minute or until fragrant.
    6. Add the onion and bell peppers. Stir fry until the vegetables are softened.
    7. Next, add the sauce to the pan and cook the sauce until it has thickened.
    8. Add the cooked beef and toss the beef until it is evenly coated with the sauce.
    9. Serve with hot steamed rice and enjoy!
