even imagine how bad they would have turned out Â
so today I’m hoping that this one isn’t goingÂ
to be that bad because we did review his pizza Â

guys okay today is my church event called theÂ
Chili Bowl and what they do is they do flag Â
football seven on seven teams and they do a chiliÂ
cook off chili and football what could go wrong Â
I was from Philly but they got rid of me so I’mÂ
going with the Giants let’s see if the Giants win Â
there in first if the Eagles win so I’ve enteredÂ
for the first time I’m going to try and win the Â
chili uh competition I don’t know there may beÂ
three people that show up there may be 100 people Â
show up I have no idea all I know is that um I’veÂ
kind of altered some chilies and things I’ve liked Â
in chilies I’ve done from the past so I’ve got itÂ
right here uh I’m just going to show you guys what Â
I’m making this will Air after the competition I’mÂ
probably never entering the competition again so IÂ Â
don’t care if people know my recipe but I don’tÂ
want them to know the recipe before the event Â
happens o we’re going to be seeing Jack’s topÂ
secret chili recipe today I hope it’s a good one Â
or is there a reason why he’s not wanting anyoneÂ
to know what’s in it before he actually makes Â
recipe H okay so it’s all awesome ingredientsÂ
we’ve got salt and pepper for Taste two cans of Â
penel beans this is some of the magic this is uhÂ
Chipotle in Adobo sauce this is where the heat for Â
my chili is coming from right here and that’s itÂ
I’m not putting any chili powder in or anything Â
it’s going to be the Smoky goodness of this ifÂ
anyone’s wondering what type of Adobo sauce this Â
is actually in in Mexico they have their own typesÂ
of adomo so unlike Filipino Ado they use chilies Â
and spices and with chipot chilies they normallyÂ
put tomato garlic and other spices and herbs in Â
it to make it well super tasty and then I gotÂ
a can of corn tomato paste IPA beer La lintas Â
this beer this is an IPA this is what I use onÂ
my sausage sliders remember and it foamed up Â
got all caramell tasting this is an amazing beerÂ
to cook with okay now normally I don’t cook with Â
beer I normally cook with wine but but there areÂ
recipes that you do add beer to it or you can to Â
make a tasty recipe the thing is though dependingÂ
on what type of beer you’re going to be adding it Â
can affect the flavor greatly ipas again dependingÂ
on what they are can add a bitterness to the beer Â
or depending on the Hops that are actually in theÂ
IPA it can add a little bit of fru or sweetness to Â
it so before actually adding the beer to whateverÂ
you’re going to be using is a good idea to get a Â
couple and taste it before and and see if you’llÂ
like that flavor then you got diced tomatoes you Â
got three things of black beans garlic two jars ofÂ
your salsa whatever salsa you like we’re going to Â
dice up an onion I’ve got Italian sweet ItalianÂ
sausage and then let’s clear this off because Â
this is what’s going to win it for me I thinkÂ
is this beautiful smoked brisket I cooked it Â
for 12 hours this is leftovers something tellsÂ
me that I should be a little worried right now Â
what Jack’s going to be showing us you guysÂ
remember last year I did I had a smoke brisket Â
and it was it was amazing absolutely beautifulÂ
look at this oh is that is that a work of art Â
can you see that look at that outer crust thereÂ
that it’s just it’s just gorgeous gorgeous Jack Â
actually called this gorgeous to be honest this isÂ
something that a ghoul would be eating in Fallout Â
and yes I did see this series and now I can’t stopÂ
playing the games let me know guys if you’ve seen Â
the Fallout series that just came out on AmazonÂ
and if you can’t stop playing the games as well Â
because you know can’t get enough of it thisÂ
is the meat we’re not using ground beef nobody Â
uses ground beef anymore if you want to win aÂ
contest people don’t use ground beef and chili Â
anymore to win competitions yes they do all theÂ
time I mean maybe in some places they don’t but Â
you don’t just use brisket people use groundÂ
meat or ground beef as well to make chili so Â
we’re going to dice up this brisket down belowÂ
is the seasoning I used on this brisket and then Â
smoked it on my Trager for 12 hours uh so youÂ
know everything I use but the key ingredient on Â
this I’m going to tell you right now is it loveÂ
I use ground Swedish coffee and I think it was Â
brown sugar and chili powder and uh onion andÂ
garlic but to be honest though it looks bad the Â
brisket it really does especially with this grayÂ
color but that’s the myoglobin that’s actually Â
oxidized probably the hardest thing we’re goingÂ
to do is just cook our sausage that’s all we Â
got to cook everything else is already madeÂ
so let’s get that get that in the pan right
now yeah baby yeah [Music] baby no justÂ
trying it on nothing like a Sizzle okay Â
this is when it gets interesting thisÂ
is when we put everything together Â
I love the meat that’s the key so we’ll putÂ
that much in for now that’s the brisket same Â
with the sausage I can’t put all the sausageÂ
I want in most of it I can that’s about it all Â
right maybe a little more there we go that’s aboutÂ
it going to drop my onions in there well this is Â
already turning into a chili I don’t think it’sÂ
going to win I mean just tossing everything in Â
the [Â __Â ] poot and hoping that it’ll turnÂ
out to be a tasty chili my beans there we
go there’s the
corn Tomatoes The Garlic pink see if I can shakeÂ
out the paste come on come on too lazy to get a Â
spoon you know what’s a shame if he was too lazyÂ
to get a spoon for this couldn’t he have been too Â
lazy to make the video then so we didn’t have toÂ
watch this that’s what I’m talking about right Â
there salsa oh it’s getting full it’s gettingÂ
full I don’t know what I’m going to do we’re Â
going to pour the beer in yes it will cook off theÂ
alcohol I’m going to be cooking a long time from Â
this there we go beautiful look at it reacting andÂ
bubbling what a waste of a perfectly good IPA so IÂ Â
chopped up all the Chipotle peppers and the AdoboÂ
sauce it’s all mixed in here now I just took a Â
quick little taste to make sure it’s perfectÂ
it’s a perfect balance of everything perfect Â
balance of everything I don’t think so at leastÂ
everything’s cooked or has been cooked and he’s Â
not tasting this raw like the chicken hi for 1 toÂ
two hours I mean you want to get it out to a boil Â
first and then put it on either medium or lowÂ
depending on like how much power your cooking Â
surface or your crock pot has and then let itÂ
cook for a long time but one to two hours on
I okay so this is the this is competition overÂ
here all the teams are getting ready for seven Â
on seven football station camps here and BeachÂ
footballs here oh poor people they don’t know Â
what’s going to happen I’m just imagining rightÂ
now like a mass food poisoning oh oh my okay oh Â
no what did we e what are you doing it’s comingÂ
under me like lava and I’m not going to tell you Â
which one is mine I won’t tell you which one isÂ
mine not at all I can’t tell you which one I think Â
we get the hint Jack yeah your chili is numberÂ

deal um I’m at the Chile competition and I canÂ
tell you right now I’m not going to win let me Â
tell you why number one I don’t cheat but numberÂ
two they’re letting everybody here vote which one Â
they think is the best and I don’t think that’sÂ
good I think you have neutral designated judges Â
so I’m going to go on record saying that I’mÂ
probably not going to win today a good little Â
moral lesson is this I used to back pipe a lot IÂ
used to compete every single weekend for several Â
years and the one thing that I always had to keepÂ
in mind was that you could only do the best that Â
you can do and then it’s up to the judges and inÂ
this case it’s not up to the judges it’s up to all Â
the people but still it’s something that shouldn’tÂ
take so seriously especially when it’s not that Â
important I mean what’s going to happen you’re notÂ
even going to get a little trophy that saying that Â
you won the best chili contest at school it’s notÂ
important some people can take competition very Â
seriously and this the only time I’m doing thisÂ
competition cuz I’ve already shown the recipes HÂ Â
see this is what I mean why does it matter try notÂ
to poison everyone and have fun that’s it okay so Â
there were some nice people great Chili’s I didn’tÂ
win first second or third place I wonder who won Â
the competition if anyone was actually there atÂ
the chili competition I know it was a long time Â
ago but if you were there then let me know who wonÂ
and if you tasted Jack’s chili let me know what Â
you thought about it I’m curious actually to seeÂ
you know just what is all this stuff put together Â
what does it tastes like know when you go to anÂ
apartment building and you smell other people’s Â
cooking on each floor and you’re going where theyÂ

personally speaking this is not anything closeÂ
to how I make my own chili I have various chili Â
recipes and none of them are like this if you haveÂ
made this chili recipe let me know what you think Â
but I have to say that out of all the ingredientsÂ
the one that looks the worst is actually the Â
brisket but considering that everything elseÂ
was canned it probably wasn’t the worst let Â

IPA seems strange for chili. If I was using beer for chili I'd first think of stout. My favorite chili booze is Johnnie Walker Red Label, the peat smoke really makes it work… though I'm really thinking a nice imperial cream stout might beat it. I really have to try that.
tbf. his brisket was something like 14 months old if i recall right. improperly stored. and very likely freezer burnt. so…
Hahaha đ I agree with you. Ever since I saw the whole Fallout show I just canât stop playing the game. Itâs just that good and awesome of a game. If it was up to me Iâd play it for the rest of the year or even till next year. Cuz you can do so much in the game. The building is what takes up most of the time for sure lol đ
Man I bet everyone who ate that Chili got sick for sure man. And once they find his video of him making his chili thatâs full evidence for any of them to sue him for food poisoning cuz that brisket has got to be another year old brisket or the other half of the year old brisket. Like WTH dude.

A few things:
So Jack says not to use ground beef, but heâs basically using ground pork since heâs using sweet Italian sausage, which heâs clearly just crumbled after cooking. Also the seasonings in Italian sausage do not work in chili.
Apparently there were a couple news reports from the chili bowl that people were throwing Jackâs chili in the bin. Thatâs what I saw from some comments but Iâve never been able to find the reports myself
Jack claimed he chopped the chipotle peppers in adobo sauce but you could clearly see when he took them out that they were already chopped
Jack complained about them letting everyone else vote, but thatâs how all chili cook offs work (at least all the ones Iâve seen)
You can tell how bitter Jack is about losing, heâs always thought of himself as the greatest cook ever, despite 0 knowledge, so whenever someone proves heâs not as good as he thinks, he acts like a child in a huff.
I dont get it it's like he just throwing random chit into a pot and it's all premade tinned trash.
It isn't even hard to make a tomato sauce base and it will be infinitely better than anything you can buy it's actually impressive that he made it look hard.

Sometimes it is more important to know its not that important and to just do the best you can.
I remember for a halloween party i wanted to do something crazy and made green mac-n-cheese. I went through so much more effort to make it look all halloweeny and tbh… it was probably the best mac n cheese i ever made. But because it was green people didnt care for it. Lol. Except the few people that tried it. They liked it. I kinda let that dictate my attitude instead of have fun at an event where everyone else was having fun. And it wasnt even a competition.
If people actually ate that chili and survived, then it must be proof the God exists. Kind of fitting for a church event. đ
James, I love your stuff, and I'm sure I'll get flack for saying it, but this type of content is beneath you. Used to be that your channel featured a steady stream of recipes, but now it's all reaction videos, and for what? Nobody is forcing you to watch "Jack" – he isn't a celebrity chef like Jamie Oliver. The only reason his videos are popular is because they are promoted by youtube content creators for the sole purpose of mocking him. And have at it, I guess – he puts himself out there, I suppose it's fair game. But it's like reacting to "Kays cooking" – yah yah, we get it, let's all have a laugh at the parochial, lower-middle-class losers and their trashy affectations. And don't kid yourself, that's all this is – jeering at your perceived lessers in the most condescending way possible (all the canned ingredients, tsk tsk!). More broadly, is this your goal with the channel now? One carbonara video sandwiched between dozens of reaction vids and desperate attempts to be recognized by uncle roger? If so, that's kind of a bummer. I understand if this just goes into the ignore pile, but it's some genuine feedback from a longtime fan who really respects your work.

@ChefJamesMakinson – I would like to suggest you stick to cooking videos of recipes made by yourself, rather than reviewing vile garbage by amateurs, I suppose you could intersperse them with videos of you visiting and ordering meals at restaurants and then rating them out of 10…

If I were to make Chili… I'd get a chuck steak, give it a hot smokey grill sear on some wood fire, then throw it in the insta pot with spices and CARMELIZED veggies till it fell apart… I wouldn't use leftover frozen cooked meat, you want something that will cook and release juices into the chili. Also if you use beans, use soaked dry beans so they take on the chili flavor. Also remove the sausage from the casings! They're gonna fall off and be rubber bands in the chili.
Not sure if you caught on to this fact: The brisket looks awful because it was made a year prior and was in the freezer. People were warning you about this video because of the danger that brisket posed to the people who ate it.
