Queen Majesty – Red Habanero and Black Coffee – OBITUARY REVIEW

Here lies Queen Majesty’s Red Habanero and Black Coffee –

8.7/10

I first met this sauce on the Heatonist app. I definitely had a devilish grin when I saw this was on sale for 50% off. I added it to my cart immediately, after hearing so many good things about Queen Majesty here on this sub. I was certainly eager to get to this one, especially having a great experience with the Scotch Bonnet and Ginger sauce. I can say with a certain brevity that I am grateful this company exists, even after only trying 2 of their options. Queen Majesty does notably have a limited selection of sauce choices, which means we could try their entire lineup with 1 skillfully placed order. I would order a shirt or sweater if they had my size available, sadface. Anyway, let’s get into this review!

REVIEW: This sauce is stellar, and one for the record books! If you’re a bit hesitant about trying something labeled as featuring coffee, fear not! I was skeptical about that fact at first, even though it piqued my interest, I was unsure about how the bitterness of the coffee would play with the habanero. SO, I’m happy to say that this sauce is awesome, and the “coffee” flavor isn’t really what I imagined. It tastes more like another spice, adding a deep rich flavor similar to black pepper or even clove or allspice. I like to do homemade pickled vegetables, and this inspired me to try adding some coffee beans to a brine. Anyway, the pepper flavor in this is excellent. It has a nice floral front taste, with the heat being mostly forward and builds a little bit, leading to a higher heat level for a habanero-based sauce. I think the coffee here curbs the pure bite of the pepper and also enhances the heat just a smidgeon. The unique (yet versatile) flavor of this sauce distracts from the onion and bell pepper just a bit, but of course I don’t mind that too much, and the flavor is still there when you look for it. If I wasn’t told there is ginger in this, I wouldn’t have known. The olive oil is a nice touch just for consistency’s sake, and there is no real sweetness to be had, even from the onion. I’ll surely be ordering this one again to try at home for other applications! Rest in Peace, Spicy Prince
