There’s just something about cooking what your mom cooked for you. It hits different.
This is one of our favorite meals.
✨ Pepper Steak (Family Recipe)
Ingredients:• 2–3 lbs round steak or minced steak, trimmed & sliced• 4 bell peppers, sliced• 6 tomatoes, quartered• Soy sauce (I prefer La Choy – add to taste)• 1 heaping tablespoon minced garlic• Green onions (white parts sliced for cooking, green tops diced for garnish)• 2 cups flour or Argo cornstarch mixed with water to pancake batter consistency• Instant rice (or your favorite rice)directions are on the box for family servings.
Directions:
Add sliced steak to a pan.
In the center, add minced garlic and the white parts of the green onions.
Pour soy sauce over the meat (enough to coat it well). We use a lot in the sauce and have extra on hand to use later when it’s served.
Brown everything together.
Add water to create a broth. Enough to cover meat and veggies.
Toss in the sliced bell peppers and cover until they’re almost tender.
Turn heat up to medium-high/high and bring to a boil.
Mix flour and water to a pancake consistency. Approximately 2 cups depending on how much broth is added.
Slowly pour in the flour or cornstarch mixture to thicken the sauce, stirring well. Should be thick gravy consistency. There will be flour pieces. They will mix in.
Reduce heat to low.
Add the quartered tomatoes.
Cover and let cook until tomatoes are tender.
Serve over white instant rice (or your favorite rice) with garlic bread on the side.
* If using round steak make sure to score it with a meat mallet as a tenderizer & cut off excess fat.
* Have extra soy sauce on hand to add on when you plate the rice and sauce.
And just like that… dinner is served and another generation knows the recipe. 🥩✨
