Hello friends,
I'm very new to the world of hot peppers and I had a question about a Habanero plant, and others, that I am growing. I have Googled this stuff but there are so many conflicting answers its making my head spin. I have very successfully grown garden veg outside like cucumbers, pumpkins, sweet corn, onions etc. but I'm slowly realizing hot peppers seem to be a whole different ball game! I picked this guy up when it was about maybe 1" or 2" tall and then transplanted into a 5 gallon bucket with potting soil once it was 7" ish. It is now almost a foot tall and I have a few questions:
-
How often should I be watering this guy? I was doing it daily (around 1 cup) but apparently thats not good because roots will rot (or so I have heard)- so i have scaled down to once every days.
-
I have these plants under a full spectrum grow light (linked below) that people have highly recommended. I have it around 16" above the tallest leaf of the plant currently. Is that too high? Too low? I have it running from around 7AM – 10PM daily as I have seen that they need roughly 16 hours of artificial light indoors daily to grow. Is that too long?
-
In the second picture you'll notice some browning on the sides of the leaf. Is that normal? Or is that something I should be mitigating via something I'm not doing already like fertilizing, too much light/too little light, etc. The underside of the leaf does not show any pest activity like aphids or anything like that.
Again please excuse any ignorance or stupidity – I've never grown peppers before and its something that has always interested me a lot. The plants leaves are very green as shown in the picture so something must be going right but perhaps you smarter folk can give me some pointers!
I appreciate your time, cheers!
