While you’re growing those mega-hots

Don’t forget to give some jalapeños, Jimmy Nardellos, and Shishitos some love (just ignore the RB003 that photobombed the pic, what a diva). They may not seem as glamorous, but they’re way more useful day to day and make a nice edition to balance out your face-melting lava sauces with their robust flavors. My kids absolutely love the Shishitos, which came as a bonus pack from my Ohio Peppers order. I’d actually have paid for these seeds in hindsight, as I’m quite a fan now myself and those plants are crazy productive. I’ve never tried the Jimmy Nardellos, but that’s a good sized RB003 posted up next to one and I’ve heard some very good things about them. The jalapeños are supposedly Farmer’s Market but look like garden variety jalapeños to me at this point. Not pictured are the Serranos, also from Ohio Peppers.

I’m probably in the minority in this sub in that I’m not into superhots. They look cool and I love seeing pics of peoples’ crazy breeding and growing shenanigans, but I’d rather up my flavor-to-capsaicin ratio. My hottest peppers are rocotos, which max out at habanero-level heat. There are so many other awesome peppers out there, it’s good to have a variety of heat levels and flavors and species for different uses.
