Can a simple can of chili become the ultimate grilled cheese? We heated up canned chili with jalapeños, added a splash of hot sauce, layered it with plenty of melty cheese and crunchy corn chips, then cooked it in the pizza oven until golden brown and crispy. The result was a cheesy, spicy, crunchy sandwich that took a pantry staple to the next level. 🔥🧀🌶️🍞🥣
Canned Chili Grilled Cheese
Ingredients
1 can chili (I used Jack Link’s Chili w/Beans & Jalapeño)
4 slices thick bread (I used Wonder Bread Thick Sliced Texas toast)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Frito Corn chips
Frank’s RedHot Sauce
Smoker Pizza Oven Setup
Temp: 350-400F (dial set to 275F)
Preheat 10-15 mins
Step 1: Prep the Chili
Pour canned chili into a pan.
Heat inside the smoker pizza oven for 10–15 minutes.
Stir occasionally until thick and bubbling.
Important: Allow the chili to cool and thicken so it doesn’t make a soggy sandwich.
Step 2: Build the Sandwich
Butter the outside of each bread slice.
Inside layering:
Cheese
Thick chili
More cheese
Corn chips
Hot sauce (optional)
Close sandwich and press gently.
Step 3: Toast in the Pizza Oven
Place sandwich directly on the pan.
Cook 1–2 minutes per side.
Flip once for even browning.
Step 4: Finish
Rest 1 minute before cutting
Enjoy!!😋
