Chickpeas are delicious on their own, but when you pair them with a fiery homemade chilli paste and a creamy tofu walnut sauce, they become something truly special. Today’s recipe is packed with flavour, protein, and texture, creating a dish that’s both wholesome and incredibly satisfying.

Ingredients
For the Chilli Paste
1 onion, roughly chopped
½ inch fresh ginger
3 cloves garlic
4 dried red chillies, soaked
½ teaspoon cumin seeds
Water, as needed for blending
For the Tofu-Walnut Sauce
100–120g firm tofu
¾ cup walnuts
Water, as needed for blending
For the Chickpea Curry
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
800g cooked chickpeas (or 2 cans, drained and rinsed)
½ teaspoon coriander seeds
½ teaspoon cumin seeds
3 tablespoons chilli paste (or to taste)
1 tablespoon tomato purée
1 tablespoon Kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ teaspoon Kashmiri chilli powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon cumin powder
½ teaspoon brown sugar
Salt to taste
2–3 tablespoons cooking oil
Hot water, as needed
Fresh coriander, chopped, for garnish
To Serve
Fluffy steamed rice
Cucumber slices
Lime wedges
Extra fresh coriander
Serve it with fluffy steamed rice, flatbreads, or simply enjoy it on its own. This is comfort food that feels indulgent while being made from simple everyday ingredients.
