Their nymphs do not like the flame from a lighter at all.
Each time they feed, they use their beaks to pierce the skin, leading to invasive organisms like fungi and bacteria causing the fruits to spoil. Typically these insects show up later in the season here, but they’ve shown up in droves early this year and I’m seeing more and more fruits impacted by them.
