Popular Afro-Caribbean restaurant in Louisville expands into larger space
Eden and Kissi, a family-owned Afro-Caribbean restaurant in Louisville, has expanded into a new, larger space this week, providing more room for customers and staff.
The restaurant is known for creating a sense of home and belonging for its customers.
“It’s about feeling safe in a safe place. And this is what we provide for people,” said David Gnanba, co-owner of Eden and Kissi.
The restaurant has been serving authentic Afro-Caribbean cuisine for over a decade.
“It started in my mom’s kitchen, and she used to cook for her friends, you know, and they used to enjoy her food and only ask for her cooking,” Gnaba said.
The business grew from its beginnings in a home kitchen to appearances at festivals like World Fest, a food truck, and eventually, its first brick-and-mortar location.
“We were in a space that was about 1,200 square feet,” Gnaba said.
Now, the restaurant has moved into a space nearly four times larger.
“Now, we are at almost 4,000 square feet. So, it’s about four times, you know, bigger than my old location.”
The larger location provides more room for both customers and staff.
“We’re always trying to find a way to make the workers feel comfortable in our home so they can, you know, do great food for the customers.”
Eden and Kissi remains dedicated to preserving authentic Afro-Caribbean flavors and traditions. For example, its attieke, a traditional dish, is shipped in a plastic bag just like it is made in their family’s village in West Africa.
“These are the things that are available to us there, so this is what we use.”
For the family, food is about more than just a meal. It’s about creating a sense of home and community. With their expanded space, they hope to welcome even more people to their table.
Their new restaurant is located at 6006 Shepherdsville Road, Louisville, KY 40228.
