The Terra restaurant on the third floor of Eataly closed due to vermin contamination, according to the County of Santa Clara Environmental Health on Friday.

Authorities said an inspection was conducted in the entire Eataly food facility after the department received a public complaint denouncing the presence of rodents. They said that, although the investigation did not find rodents, it confirmed the presence of vermin on the third floor.

According to the Department of Environmental Health official inspection report, the inspector “found a live cockroach crawling on the wall above the hand wash sink in the kitchen.” The report also stated they found “dead cockroaches in the following areas: on the wall above the hand wash sink in the food preparation area.”

The health permit for Terra Restaurant and Bar was then suspended, according to health authorities. They said the restaurant manager confirmed during an interview with Environmental Health inspectors that pest control services were completed Thursday night, the facility was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and food that was potentially contaminated was thrown away.

Officials said the restaurant will reopen as soon as it resolves all open items from the inspection report and requests a reinspection to confirm the problem was resolved.

NBC Bay Area reached out to Eataly for comment but hasn’t heard back.
