HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A new food truck serving authentic Punjabi fare is giving Oahu residents another go-to option for Indian cuisine.
Operating out of a food truck, Haveli Da Tandoor is bringing authentic Punjabi dishes to people in Hawaii.
Business owner Manbir Grewal said he noticed a lack of Indian cuisine across the state and was inspired to change that.
“I moved to Hawaii about 2 years ago, and people around the island were always saying ‘You’re Indian, you should make Indian food!’ So, it was kind of a joke at first but then it became a real thing,” said Grewal.
They offer a variety of authentic Punjabi appetizers, entrees, and combo plates. Some of their most popular dishes are their Tandoori lamb lollis, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, and wagyu beef samosas.
Grewal said they can be found at the ‘What the Truck’ pop-up night market at Pearl Ridge. They also post their truck’s upcoming location every Sunday on Instagram.
They partner with a non-profit organization called ‘Khalsa Aid’ which allows them to support and feed those on the island in need of a meal. Last month, over 100 people received free meals.
Grewal said they also plan to set up free food vending for military members through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
