CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Once Procter & Gamble’s headquarters, Cincinnati’s historic Gwynne Building has transformed into a luxury hotel and restaurant that pays homage to the Midwest city’s heritage.

On July 28, Cincinnati’s Fidelity Hotel will open inside the renovated Beaux-Arts high-rise that was designed by architect Ernest Flagg in 1913, and added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The building was commissioned by Flagg’s cousin Alice Gwynne Vanderbilt, who was married to Cornelius Vanderbilt II. Alice later named the Gwynne Building after her father, Abraham Evan Gwynne, a well-known Cincinnati lawyer and judge.

Inside the 165-room hotel, customers will find 11 different-style suites and rooms, along with a new restaurant, Gwynne.

Cincinnati native and executive chef Brad Bernstein created Gwynne to recognize the city’s cuisine and culture that was shaped by the Ohio River.

“Growing up in Cincinnati and coming from a family that’s been part of the city’s culinary community for generations, I’ve always been inspired by the ingredients, traditions, and hospitality that define this region,” said Chef Bernstein. “Gwynne is an opportunity to celebrate those influences through a restaurant that feels unmistakably at home in Cincinnati.”

But what exactly is the food of the Ohio River Valley (other than Skyline Chili)? Well, it involves a melting pot of Appalachian and German cultures.

Gwynne’s signature dishes are Appalachian-heavy, such as the fried green tomatoes with sassafras cream, pork belly with sweet corn and marque choux, and sweet corn and crab bisque.

Customers will see more European influences in Gwynne’s cocktail menu, like in the Losantiville Confluence Old Fashioned or the Over-the-Rhine Social.

Gwynne is open for breakfast, brunch and dinner each day of the week.

In addition to the restaurant, a new coffee shop will be at ground-floor as well, across the hall from Gwynne.

Cora’s All Day Cafe offers specialty coffee drinks, various pastries and to-go sandwiches and salads.

The hotel, restaurant and cafe are located at 610 Main St. in Downtown Cincinnati.
