DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Federal agents arrested several people at Davenport restaurants three weeks ago. Now, law enforcement is confirming the arrests.
Eight people were arrested at Izumi Steakhouse and Jiangs Hot Pot BBQ Grill April 22.
Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane told KWQC U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 8 people.
Lane said ICE did not contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office before to making the arrests at the restaurants.
He said the arrests are likely from federal warrants and said the people arrested were not taken to the Scott County Jail.
Officials with the Davenport Police Department also said they didn’t know arrests were made until federal agents were in the city.
Davenport police said federal law enforcement agencies are not required to notify local jurisdictions. Officials said they did not assist with the arrests.
The owners of Izumi and Jiang’s posted on Facebook on April 29 about a closure at Red Ginger, another restaurant under the same ownership.
KWQC received the following email response from them on May 1.
“We are unable to give much information at this time. There were some internal issues causing the restaurant to be temporarily closed. The best way to provide services was to combine staff and work out of one location.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, both restaurants were open.
KWQC reached out to the restaurants ownership for an interview. We have yet to receive a response.
It is unknown where the eight people were taken to or are currently being held.
