PRINEVILLE, Ore. — Crook County law enforcement was investigating an early morning burglary Wednesday at Brasada Ranch, the second reported burglary there in recent weeks. The sheriff’s office is also warning people about unfounded information online after incorrect reports that this was an armed robbery.
The Crook County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and Prineville Police Department responded to a report of a burglary at the Ranchhouse in Brasada Ranch, the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.
CCSO said two people were found trying to take alcohol and were confronted by an employee. The two people ran away on foot. A K9 from the Bend Police Department was unable to find them.
The sheriff’s office said there is no threat to the public and the investigation is ongoing.
CCSO also clarified that there were social media posts indicating this was an armed robbery from people who basing that off “scanner chatter.” The sheriff’s office said this was not an armed robbery.
“We encourage everyone to be cautious about what they read and share on social media and to wait for factual information to emerge from trusted sources. Knee-jerk reactions can cause unnecessary panic,” the post read.
In an unrelated case, a Portland man was arrested last month, accused of stealing $20,000 in rental golf clubs from Brasada Ranch and trying to sell them on Facebook Marketplace.
