It’s important to keep your family safe—especially when it comes to your furry family members, who may not be able to communicate when something is wrong or making them sick. With a spate of recent recalls on everything from dog food to lettuce, it’s more important than ever to keep a close eye on food safety.
A pet company called Fi is recalling two of its pet supplements, which can cause both dogs and people to get sick. The supplements may be contaminated with salmonella, which can cause illness both in pets that ingest the dietary supplement and in humans who handle the product. The products were sold via Amazon, Chewy.com, and directly through Fi’s website.
These are the affected products:
Fi Calming Supplement for Dogs 180 grams; Lot number 26118; UPC 8 50064 80011 1Fi 8-in-1 Formula Supplement for Dogs 180 grams; Lot number 26159; UPC 8 50055 11168 4
If your pet consumed these supplements, contact your vet right away. Pets who do not appear to be sick can still be contagious carriers of salmonella and may transmit the disease to other people and pets in the household. Humans are susceptible to getting salmonella from the affected product, as well.
According to the FDA, “There is a potential risk to humans from handling contaminated products or from animal waste after the animals have ingested the product. This risk is greater if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having had contact with the products, surfaces exposed to these products, or animal waste.”
