Garbo’s Lobster will close its location at 626 N. Lamar Blvd. at the end of September, according to an Instagram post.
The seafood restaurant said it will not renew its lease for the location but did not provide a reason. The final day for the Lamar location will be Sept. 26.
Garbo’s other brick-and-mortar location, located near the North MoPac Expressway, will remain open, along with the company’s food trucks throughout Austin.
The restaurant, which serves New England-inspired cuisine with an Austin twist, opened its Lamar location in 2022.
In 2017, KVUE’s Bryan Mays featured Garbo’s on a “Foodie Friday” segment, back when the business primarily operated two food trucks before expanding into brick-and-mortar locations. Co-owner Heidi Garbo, who grew up in Connecticut, said at the time that she wanted customers to get lobster as fresh as what she ate in her home state.
Garbo’s was founded by Heidi Garbo and her sister, Samantha Garbo. The family has longstanding ties to the lobster industry, according to the restaurant’s website.
And the family’s involvement in the hospitality industry now extends to the next generation: Heidi Garbo’s son, Connor Garbo, runs Cowboy Cubans on West 29th Street.
