Milwaukee restaurant DanDan reopens after health inspection

DanDan is the third Third Ward restaurant temporarily shut down for health code issues in the last month

James GanleyMILWAUKEE —

UPDATE March 23, 9 a.m. Chef Dan Jacobs said DanDan will reopen on Monday after a weekend closure issued by the health department.

“We are pleased to share that DanDan passed our follow-up health inspection this morning. We received an excellent score on our health inspection, but closed to deal with a minor matter. Cleanliness and food safety are non-negotiable for us,” Jacobs said.

The Milwaukee Health Department told WISN 12 News that the establishment was temporarily closed due to pest activity observed during a routine inspection.

This marks the third restaurant in the Historic Third Ward to be temporarily shut down for health code violations in the last month. Both The Wicked Hop and Blue Bat Kitchen & Tequilaria were previously closed but have since reopened following re-inspection.

A health department spokesperson said the actual inspection reports would not be available for roughly two weeks.

DanDan in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward has been temporarily closed by the Milwaukee Health Department, pending re-inspection.

According to a sign posted on the front door of the restaurant, the closure was issued on Friday, March 20.

DanDan is co-owned by chef Dan Jacobs, a well-known figure in Milwaukee’s food scene who gained national recognition for his appearance on Bravo’s “Top Chef.”

WISN 12 News has reached out to the Milwaukee Health Department for more information on what led to DanDan’s closure and when it may reopen.
