The Grounds unveils first five retailers for new Winston-Salem mixed-use district
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. —
The latest mixed-use district arriving near Wake Forest University has rolled out the first round of restaurants, bars and businesses to come to Winston-Salem. According to the latest news release, The Grounds will be approximately 42,000 square feet dedicated to bringing more dining, wellness, entertainment and housing along Deacon Boulevard.

The Grounds announced on Wednesday that kicking off their opening will be these five retailers:
The Jimmy: A Mediterranean- and Italian- inspired restaurant and bar from Charlotte restauranteur Jim Noble.The Fieldhouse Tavern: A “food-forward” sports bar from Winston-Salem restauranteurs Thomas and Brandon Brock.Bagels & Co.: A franchise breakfast and lunch spot known for being popular among college students.Tremble: A fast-growing Pilates franchise opening its second location in Winston-Salem.Allegacy Financial: A federal credit union founded in Winston-Salem that is opening a multipurpose space to hold events, meetings, speakers and other programming.

The mixed-use district is set to serve as the backdrop for game-day activities for Wake Forest sports with its closeness to Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium, Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum and David F. Couch Ballpark. It’s also near the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds.

“For a long time, people have understood the potential of this area on a game day,” said Coleman Team, President and Managing Partner of Front Street Capital. “This first group of retailers shows what The Grounds will do for those event days and beyond, on every other day of the year.”
The Grounds plans to have the “Retail & Dining Village” open in Fall 2027. It is the first wave of a larger Phase I, with additional announcements to come by the end of Q1 2027.
The $250 million development of The Grounds also includes Creekside at The Grounds, an apartment community for students, 22 additional residences, a 130,000-square-foot Wake Forest-anchored office building and approximately $40 million in state- and city-funded infrastructure improvements.
