Batavia, N.Y. — A man has been charged with murder after beating another man to death at an addiction treatment center, according to the Batavia Police Department.
Police said they received a call from Rochester Regional Health’s Hope Haven Center on Bank Street shortly after midnight Thursday morning reporting a possible homicide involving two residents.
Officers found a 63-year-old man with serious traumatic injuries, according to police. He was pronounced dead. Frederick Scott, 53, was arrested, charged with murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the felony complaint, Scott bludgeoned the victim in the head with a 37-inch metal pipe while the victim was sleeping.
Police said Scott was held in the Genesee County Jail without bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 6.
No further information about the homicide has been released. Police said it remains under investigation.
In a statement, Rochester Regional Health said it was “deeply saddened” by the incident.
