WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn — A fire tore through a popular Brooklyn restaurant during the busy Saturday night dinner rush.
At least six firefighters were injured after a massive fire broke out at a restaurant in Brooklyn.
Flames broke out at ‘Juliette’ on N. 5th Street between Bedford Ave and Berry Street in Williamsburg just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday. In just minutes, over a hundred firefighters swarmed the block
“We had a localized collapse on the roof at one point. Members had to withdraw and then go back in,” said FDNY Deputy Chief Michele Fitzsimmons.
The FDNY says about a half hour later there was a ‘smoke explosion.’
“I saw a big cloud of fire basically burst out of Juliette, the restaurant Juliette, and glass shattered,” says Justin Varga, who lives nearby.
Juliette has been a Williamsburg staple for 20 years.
“It’s really sad, you know, I mean, you know, I think a lot of people in this neighborhood love Juliette’s, you know,” said Nashemia B.
No one inside the restaurant was hurt, but six firefighters suffered minor injuries.
Four firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Another firefighter refused medical attention.
Flames were placed under control just before 8:30 p.m.
There is no word on the cause of the fire or extent of the damage.
