Apparently East Lansing decided one new restaurant on this little stretch of Grand River Avenue wasn’t enough.
So how about two?
Two restaurants we’ve been keeping an eye on near Michigan State are now open: Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken & Wings and Halal Bros 2 Go.
And they’re basically next-door neighbors.

Hangry Joe’s opened earlier this month at 551 E. Grand River Ave., where Poké Fresh used to be.

If Nashville-style hot chicken is your thing, this one’s pretty straightforward. They’ve got hot chicken sandwiches (or “sandos,” if we’re being official), along with wings, tenders, chicken and waffles, and loaded fries.

Halal Bros 2 Go Brings Halal Street Food to Grand River

This is the third location for the restaurant (the others being in Ann Arbor and Taylor). It serves up New York-style halal street food.
Think chicken or lamb over rice, mixed bowls, gyros, falafel, loaded fries and burritos. And plenty of white, green, and red sauces to get all over your shirt.
Maybe that’s just me.

Both restaurants were still in the “coming soon” category when we first told you about them in August.
Now the signs are up, the grills are hot, and people are eating.

And considering both are right across from Michigan State’s campus, I’m guessing both places know exactly who their target audience is.
Hot chicken in one spot; chicken and lamb over rice in another.
Grand River Ave. in East Lansing just got a little tastier.
