Tortilla is turning up the heat for autumn with a fiery new chicken creation, a returning fan-favourite sauce and a collaboration with Leeds hot sauce brand Thiccc Sauce.
If you like your lunch with a serious kick, autumn has arrived with some potentially dangerous-looking menu options.
Tortilla has launched its new Hot Damn Chicken, a sweet and fiery addition to its California-style Mexican menu, alongside the return of its popular Ghost Chilli Ranch.
The new additions are the latest result of Tortilla’s collaboration with award-winning Leeds-based hot sauce brand Thiccc Sauce, bringing plenty of chilli heat to burritos, bowls and other Tortilla favourites.
Meet the New Hot Damn Chicken!
Available from 22 September, Hot Damn Chicken takes Tortilla’s classic Asado Chicken and gives it a fiery makeover with a new Hot Damn Glaze, created in collaboration with Thiccc Sauce.
The result is a sweet, spicy and flavour-packed chicken featuring a triple hit of ghost chilli.
Customers can add Hot Damn Chicken to their usual Tortilla order, whether that’s a burrito, bowl or another custom creation.
And if you’re someone who believes there is no such thing as too much chilli, Tortilla has another option waiting.
Ghost Chilli Ranch Makes Its Return!
Joining the new chicken is the return of Ghost Chilli Ranch, which first became a hit with Tortilla customers.
The house-made ranch combines a cool and creamy texture with Thiccc Sauce’s Hot Damn Triple Ghost Chilli Hot Sauce, creating a sauce that sounds innocent enough before delivering a serious chilli kick.
The hot sauce itself brings together three particularly fiery varieties: Trinidad Scorpion Moruga, Yellow Naga Bhut Jolokia and Carolina Reaper.
Basically, this isn’t the ranch to reach for if you’re looking for something completely mild.
DAMN, THAT’S HOT! Burrito and Bowl!
For those who want to go all in, Tortilla has combined both new and returning favourites into one recommended build: the DAMN, THAT’S HOT! Burrito and Bowl.
Available in Medium or Large, the burrito comes packed with:
Coriander rice
Black beans
Hot Damn Chicken
Monterey Jack cheese
Ghost Chilli Ranch
Lettuce
Pico de gallo
Pickled onions
Jalapeños
The combination is designed to balance the sweet and fiery chicken and creamy ranch with fresh, crunchy toppings.
If a full chilli challenge isn’t quite your thing, there’s no need to commit to the whole combination. Both Hot Damn Chicken and Ghost Chilli Ranch can be ordered individually as part of Tortilla’s usual build-your-own menu.
That means you can decide exactly how much heat you want to bring to your burrito or bowl.
Something to Cool Things Down!
Tortilla has also teamed up with Dalston’s to provide a suitably refreshing drink alongside the new creation.
Customers ordering the DAMN, THAT’S HOT! Burrito or Bowl can pair it with Dalston’s Lemon Soda, with its zesty flavour offering a refreshing contrast to the chilli-heavy meal.
Because after all that ghost chilli, you’re probably going to need something.
Tortilla x Thiccc Sauce
The launch continues Tortilla’s collaboration with Thiccc Sauce, the independent hot sauce brand founded by Luca Rollini in Leeds in 2020.
The brand began during lockdown, when Rollini started experimenting with small batches of hot sauce from his mum’s kitchen.
Since then, Thiccc Sauce has built a following among hot sauce fans and collaborated with independent businesses across Yorkshire and beyond. The brand has also picked up several Great Taste Awards across 2022 and 2023.
Tortilla’s latest collaboration brings that independent hot sauce expertise to its nationwide California-style Mexican menu.
When Can You Try Tortilla’s Hot Damn Chicken?
The Hot Damn Chicken, returning Ghost Chilli Ranch and DAMN, THAT’S HOT! Burrito and Bowl are available from Tuesday 22 September across Tortilla’s UK-owned restaurants, excluding franchise locations.
The new menu items will be available in-store, through Tortilla kiosks, via order ahead and through delivery services for a limited time throughout autumn.
