COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – From preventing chronic disease to making sure families have healthy food on the table, one South Carolina organization is working to address some of the barriers impacting communities across the state.
On this episode of Awareness, host Billie Jean Shaw sits down with Tanya Rodriguez-Hodges, executive director of Limitless Community Development, to discuss the organization’s work and the resources available to families.
THE MISSION OF LIMITLESS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Tanya Rodriguez-Hodges explains the mission behind Limitless Community Development, the communities the organization serves, and why its work focuses on connecting families with resources that can improve their overall health and quality of life.
DIABETES PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT
The conversation turns to diabetes and the importance of both prevention and proper management.
Limitless leaders discuss the organization’s programs designed to provide education and resources to help people better understand their risk, make healthier choices, and manage diabetes.
FOOD FOR YOUR HEART
Food insecurity can be especially challenging for families living in rural areas where transportation and access to fresh food may be limited.
Limitless leaders discuss Food for Your Heart, Limitless Community Development’s mobile food distribution and nutrition education program. The program brings fresh fruits and vegetables, proteins, dairy, and nonperishable foods directly into communities.
Families are able to select their own food through a farmers-market-style setup, and distributions also include recipes aimed at making healthy eating practical and accessible.
They also share how people can support Limitless Community Development and what’s next for the organization.
