CHEYENNE — Wyoming’s capital city is constantly expanding, and population growth tends to also mean new businesses.
From coffee shops and restaurants to entertainment hubs like off-track betting facilities, Cheyenne residents can expect to see several new businesses in town or expand in the coming months. They include:
Lincolnway 7Brew
A new 7Brew coffee shop is being built at 2405 E. Lincolnway, and marks the second 7Brew in Cheyenne. The other is located at 1821 Dell Range Blvd.
7Brew is a drive-thru kiosk that sells coffee, energy drinks, sodas, smoothies and more.
Charles Bloom, Planning and Development director, said the development required demolishing the old Twin Chimneys Motel, which first opened in the 1930s.
“There’s a lot of discussion (about that) because I guess it was a noticeable motel on the old Lincoln Highway,” Bloom said, although he confirmed it was not an officially recognized historic site.
Bloom said groundbreaking in preparation for the building has started, but he is not aware of an opening day yet. He said he assumes developers are aiming to open sometime next spring.
South-side Taco Bell
A new Taco Bell to be built on Cheyenne’s south side is currently going through the Planning and Development review process.
The site is located at North Greeley Highway, immediately north of the Subway at 120 N. Greeley Highway. It would be one of three locations, with two others located at 2500 E. Lincolnway and 1729 Dell Range Blvd.
Construction has not yet begun on the establishment, Bloom said, due to it not having met final approval by city staff.
“(The developer) is ironing out some issues,” Bloom said. “I know one of the issues that they’re trying to work through is access, because it’s on a (Wyoming Department of Transportation) highway. So there could be limitations on things like a free-for-all driveway there. So that’s one of the issues they’re working with, but it’s progressing.”
La Paz
A proposed expansion of the existing La Paz Mexican restaurant and grocery store currently located at 200 E. 18th St. is moving slowly through the development process.
Bloom said owners are looking to expand the business into the former Green Door Lounge at 301 E. Lincolnway, which permanently closed in July 2024.
La Paz is a hole-in-the-wall grocery store selling imported Mexican goods, as well as a restaurant selling tacos and burritos.
“(The owners) submitted a site plan for this restaurant and grocery store,” Bloom said. “It was supposed to be a second location just for the one downtown that they have already on 18th (Street). They were working with us on identifying some environmental hazards that were there in the past, and different opportunities for funding assistance. It’s kind of been quiet for a while … but it was still moving forward.”
Bloom said the owners are still very early in the process and do not have a timeline for opening yet.
Cadillac Ranch Off-Track Betting
A new off-track betting facility (OTB), titled Cadillac Ranch OTB, is also in the very early stages of development.
The facility is expected to be located at 3307 Nationway.
Bloom said the developer is Wyoming Downs LLC, which operates two other locations in Cheyenne at 1345 Dell Range Blvd. and 3617 E. Lincolnway.
The Nationway location will focus on off-track betting and is not planned to have a restaurant.
“As part of their submission, they provided a floor plan, because they’re supposed to,” Bloom said. “They’re required by state statute to do that. It didn’t necessarily mention any food other than maybe quick bites, something like that — easy, small things that don’t require a full kitchen. But they are having a bar area.”
The plan is scheduled to be introduced at the Cheyenne City Council meeting Oct. 12, with final consideration set for Oct. 26.
