Angry Chickz opens first Kansas location in Olathe

A California-based hot chicken tender franchise will open its first location soon in Kansas City.

Angry Chickz, which features fried chicken tenders at six different spice levels, will open at 14995 W 119th St. in Olathe.

An opening date has yet to be announced, and Angry Chickz did not immediately respond to The Star’s request for comment.

In a July Facebook post, the hot chicken franchise told the KC suburb their palates were about to change.

“Here’s what Olathe has to look forward to: Nashville Hot Chicken so crispy and juicy it will set a whole new standard. From Country (No Heat) to ANGRY — six levels to see exactly what you are made of. A crunch so good your whole crew will be talking about it,” the post said. “One bite and Olathe will never be the same.”

Angry Chickz fries up Nashville style hot chicken tenders for its bowls and sliders. Customers can pick from spice options: country, mild, medium, hot, x-hot and angry (which requires a waiver).

Menu items are divided by classics, bowls and sides. Classics come with one or two sliders or tenders on white bread. They also offer mix-and-match and tenders over buttery rice, according to its website. Classics come with coleslaw, pickles and fries. Prices range from $10 to $14.49.

Bowls ($14.49) come with tenders over rice, mac & cheese, fries or a combination of two, like the Angry Mac (two chopped tenders over fries with mac and cheese and Angry Chickz sauce). Customers can also order sides (fries, coleslaw, mac and cheese and rice; $3.89), an extra chicken tender ($4.89) or slider ($6.69).

Angry Chickz was founded in 2018 by David Mkhitaryan, who fell in love with Nashville hot fried chicken and became obsessed with creating his own version, according to the company’s website.

“Having worked as a cook for his father at their family restaurant for years, David used his experience (and his obsession) to develop the perfect spicy chicken tender,” Angry Chickz’s website said. “He wanted to see just how juicy, just how spicy, and just how flavorful he could make it.”

The first location was in Los Angeles’ East Hollywood neighborhood. The franchise has since grown to nearly 50 locations across six states. The Olathe location will mark Kansas’ first. There is not one in Missouri.
