A New York-based fried chicken restaurant is ready to expand into North Haven with its first-ever Connecticut restaurant.
Yoyo Chicken will open at 303 Universal Drive, according to the website of Kimco Realty, which oversees the Home Depot Plaza in North Haven. The plaza also includes a Dick’s Sporting Goods, TJ Maxx and BJ’s Wholesale Club. The restaurant will occupy the home of the former Punjabi Kadhai Indian Cuisine.
An opening date has not been announced for the restaurant.
Boasting 25 locations across New York and New Jersey, the restaurant chain is best known for chicken sandwiches, tenders, “walking taco,” smash burgers and burritos. Yoyo Chicken’s cuisine is halal as well.
The first Yoyo Chicken opened in Baldwin, N.Y. in 2023 from owner Omar Elgamal, who was inspired to open his own brick-and-mortar restaurant after operating three food trucks and serving as a manager at Dunkin’, according to Long Island Restaurants.com.
“YoYo Chicken started with a simple idea—to create a place where the community could come together over food that feels real and filling. From day one, fried chicken, burgers and sandwiches were at the heart of our menu. Built with care and made fresh to order, each meal reflects our commitment to serving fast food that still feels personal, reliable and made for everyone who walks through our doors,” reads a description of the restaurant on its website.
Yoyo Chicken is the latest entry in the fried chicken wave of restaurants that seem to be invading Connecticut. Raising Cane’s, Dave’s Hot Chicken and The Red Chickz are among the chicken restaurant chains that have recently expanded into Connecticut with multiple planned locations on the way.
