We’re right in the middle of football season, and many other sports are preparing for their upcoming season. That means lots of Gatorade is on hand for thirsty athletes in West Alabama.

The impact is large: over 122,000 cases of Gatorade distributed across Alabama are being recalled, along with many other states. The recall is because certain bottles contain food dyes. This was not printed on the product label. The recall began on September 25, and the FDA classified it as a Class II recall on October 2. The products involved include 28 oz. Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange, and Gatorade Orange Zero. The recall was initiated by PepsiCo.
The Gatorade bottles have best-by dates from April to June 2027. The recall also affects Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, and several other states. The FDA says that dyes like Yellow No. 5 can cause allergic reactions in some people.
More information on the recall is available at the USFDA website.
