Aldi Opens Downtown St. Paul Grocery Store

Downtown St. Paul has a full-service grocery store again following the Sept. 24 opening of a new ALDI at Robert and 10th streets.

The store, at 115 10th St. E., opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and promotions for early shoppers. It occupies space vacated by Lunds & Byerlys last year and will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

ALDI Regional Vice President Matt Lilla said St. Paul’s infrastructure investment, parking, population density and walkability were among the factors behind the company’s decision to locate downtown.

The opening addresses a need downtown leaders said residents repeatedly identified during community engagement: convenient access to groceries.

ALDI’s opening came on the same day Stella Residences held its grand opening and the nearly completed Wabasha Park opened for public use ahead of a formal celebration.

The St. Paul Downtown Alliance said the three projects illustrate different pieces of downtown redevelopment — housing, services and public gathering space. The organization announced in May that more than $1 billion in public and private investment was underway or planned across downtown.

Downtown had been without a traditional full-service supermarket since Lunds & Byerlys closed its downtown location in 2025.

The Downtown Alliance said bringing another grocery option downtown was among the amenities residents most consistently requested and described the opening as one piece of ongoing efforts to add residents, businesses and activity to the central business district.
