Ponchatoula teacher, coach arrested in sex crimes case

The Ponchatoula Police Department has arrested a teacher and coach accused of sex crimes involving a minor.

According to Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson, Trey Sparks, 30, was arrested after a complaint was filed concerning messages found between Sparks and a minor.

At the time of the complaint, Sparks was employed as a teacher at D.C Reeves Elementary School and was a coach at the Ponchatoula Junior High School.

During the investigation, Detectives found numerous inappropriate materials on Sparks’ phone involving juveniles, according to Layrisson.

Sparks is facing four counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, and one count of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student.

Sparks was booked and taken to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.

PPD detectives are currently working with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office to continue the investigation and more charges could be filed.

Chief Layrisson would like to state that no current students at D.C. Reeves or PJHS are involved in this investigation.
