This week in the Tennessee Valley, health inspectors discarded 2 lbs of rotten and slimy lettuce in a cafeteria, discarded up to 10 lbs of food due to unsafe temperatures and dented cans, and found employees prepping food and drinks with bare hands and not washing their hands when switching tasks.
Health inspectors found employees not washing their hands when switching tasks. Several cans of food, including evaporated milk, kernel corn, and pineapple chunks, were found dented and had to be discarded. Packaged bacon was found touching rice in plastic wraps. Health inspectors found salsa in the reach-in cooler with no lids. Reheated tamales were being stored in plastic bags, and plastic sour cream containers were used to cool chorizo. Inspectors found black beans held at an unsafe temperature; they were placed back on the stove to reheat. Health inspectors also found grease buildup on the walls behind the stove.
Health inspectors threw away 10 lbs of food due to health violations found during the inspections. Heavily dented cans led to 2 lbs of canned peaches being discarded. 8 lbs of cooked beef, chicken, and hot dogs were found at unsafe temperatures. Foods were being improperly stored for cooling. Utensils and blenders were not being sanitized every 4 hours. Inspectors also found a heavy accumulation of food debris and buildup on the walls behind the fryer.
Inspectors discarded multiple food items due to multiple health violations. Chili and pot roast were thrown away for being held at unsafe temperatures. Health inspectors also discarded pizza sauce and pepperoni that were being held a week past the discard date. Employees were found washing their hands and adding garnish to drinks with bare hands. The lowboy was found at unsafe temperatures, and any food inside was discarded. Inspectors found heavy dust buildup on ceilings where the food prep is completed. Multiple nonfood contact surfaces were in poor condition.
Health inspectors found and discarded 2 lbs of rotten and slimy head lettuce stored in the reach-in cooler. Inspectors found prep handlers prepping ready-to-eat food with bare hands. Inspectors found personal items like cell phones stored on food contact surfaces next to ready-to-eat foods.
