Michigan’s largest producer of cage-free eggs recently donated almost 3,000 pounds of nonperishable food items to local organizations.

Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch, a fourth-generation family poultry farm based in Saranac, donated the food during Hunger Action Month in September to support families and neighbors in multiple communities where Herbruck’s facilities are located, including Michigan’s Ionia, Saranac and Belding.

Other communities served include Kendallville, Indiana, and Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.

“At Herbruck’s, we work to be a good neighbor and help look out for the people and communities around us,” said Ionia County Farm Bureau member Amy Herbruck, community relations manager at Herbruck’s. “By collecting and donating nonperishable foods to local community organizations, we can help make a meaningful difference for local families, and we’re proud of our team members for helping carry out this value in the communities we serve.”

Hunger Action Month is organized by Feeding America and is meant to raise awareness and inspire action to end food insecurity in the United States. Each year, Herbruck’s donates more than 2 million eggs to community organizations, along with funds, supplies and other resources.
