For those who are tired of eating slop at Urban Eatery, you are in luck. There is another slop bowl place right next door: Chipotle Mexican Grill. Perhaps the original fast casual “build your own” restaurant, Drexel University’s on-campus Chipotle is much like the other 4,000 locations nationwide.
When you eat at Chipotle, you know exactly what you are getting, and that is its biggest strength. It is open late, conveniently located at the center of campus, and affordable enough for the occasional meal out.
Nothing about the food is remarkable; it does the job. The guacamole in the veggie burrito bowl was fresh, and the food was warm and seasoned well. Portion sizes across Chipotle locations are notoriously inconsistent, but this location gave a fair portion for the price ($9.50).
Located in such a busy area, this Chipotle is always flooded with online pickup orders, so your best bet is to order when you get to the restaurant. If you wish to order online, expect a 10-15 minute longer wait time than the app estimates, especially during dinner time.
Chipotle is also offering a college rewards program, Chipotle U, where you can earn 12 points per dollar (versus the normal 10 points) and occasional free food drops. At the time of publishing, you can also earn 1,000 points when you sign up and verify your student status.Despite the long lines and corporate-slop-bowl nature of Chipotle, there really is nothing else like it on campus. With El Taco closing earlier this year, Chipotle remains standing as one of two fast-casual Mexican restaurants at Drexel, alongside Holy Guacamoly. So when your next late-night craving hits, know Drexel’s Chipotle will serve its purpose, with fresh, flavorful, and consistent food.
