Alternative answer could be birds eye, which depending on how large the peppers were could dehydrate into this shape too.

They look like chiltepin but those are native (like actually a native plant protected in national parks) to Texas, New Mexico, and Northern Mexico.

Taxonomically, it is classified within variety glabriusculum of the species Capsicum annuum.

Looks like a mix of aji charapitas and chiltepins. I grow both and they look pretty indistinguishable from each other dried… some people actually sell chiltpins as charapitas since the one is 1400% more expensive than the other..
If it’s actually from Africa it might be wiri wiri but I’ve only heard of them, never had in my actual hands.

yellow is definitly charapita. Had them by myself and dried they looked exactly like this. One of the most delicious chillis ever!! Sadly my baby died this winter..

No pepper is native to Africa. All peppers originated in the Americas. This is likely a chile pequine

Charapitas, I was gifted them in this dry form from a coworker wife who is from Peru, and brought them back from a recent visit.
