“Tunas!” In English: prickly pears! They grow on cacti and are extremely sweet. Eaten all over Mexico, you eat it with the seeds and all. Gotta say they’re delicious

  3. Peeled pricky pear, try not to bite the seeds to hard

Swallow the seeds, it’s fine. Next time try them whole, they are tastier if you peel them yourself.
    Provecho!

The fruit of the Nopal cactus. The cactus is also known as prickly pear cactus. The fruit is called tunas or prickly pears.

The fruit is green to start and then can turn yellow, orange or red when ripe. My mom used to make jelly from the red ones.

The main part known as paddles are also edible. Best to pick the young paddles. Less thorns and more tender.

  10. Poorly peeled tunas. I think white people call them prickly pears.

    Prickly pear aka Tunas.

Be careful buying down – you can crack a tooth. Also you can ingest the seeds but you may experience or difficulties going numero 2.

Tuna fruit (prickly pears). They’re in season now, very cheap and delicious

  13. Tunas?, chilacayote?….never had green prickly pears though

  14. ObscureParadigm

    They’re Prickley Pear.
In Mexican Spanish they’re called “Tunas”,
But actual tuna (the fish) is called “Atun”, in Spanish.

    Go figure .

Baby pickles. Shhhhhh! They are sleeping.

Lol this reminds me of my last trip to Mexico. I was asking the guy if they had tuna (fish) and he kept pointing at fruits. I’m like no dude, tuuuuuna. This was all in Spanish by the way. Stupid moment where I remembered this fruits name

Tunas. 🤤 My dad calls them “cobijas” por que te tapas. They are delicious!!

    Prickly pears my favorite 🤎🤎🤎🤎

  19. Prickles pear or “tunas” as others have said. Similar to pitaya or dragonfruit, but better imo.

Do NOT bite down on the seeds, just chew the flesh and swallow.

FYI If you don’t want to eat them, you can use them to make agua fresca instead!

green prickly pear. (aka tunas verdes)

  22. It’s true. They will make you constipated if you eat too many at once. I know several people who this happened to. I guess it’s possible to die from constipation, but I haven’t heard of that yet.

  24. If you look at the Mexican flag you will see an eagle standing on top of the cactus that produces these fruits. Just in case you ever saw one. Just be careful with the thorns.

    Prickly pears!
In Sicily we used to call them “Fico d’india” (Indian figs) – they’re delicious and yes you can eat the seeds

Pitayas, eat with caution they can constipate you, make sure you drink plenty of water after eating them.
