This is my first Puckerbutt/Smokin’ Ed sauce I’ve tried (I’m not sure what some are branded Puckerbutt and some Smokin’ Ed).
Since I love mustard sauces I figured I’d start with this one. It’s a very mustard forward sauce, sort of straddles the line between a hot sauce with mustard and a spicy mustard.
If you just use a little dab it tastes almost like Gulden’s spicy brown mustard. If you use more other mustard notes come out and there are hints of hot Chinese or English mustard like Colman’s.
This is also my first time tasting Pepper X. I like it – it has an earthy taste that’s closer to Ghost Pepper than the bright astringent taste of Reaper, so that’s a big plus for me.
On an absolute heat level this is pretty spicy but not super hot, probably a 6/10 when it comes to heat.
The dill flavor is present but blends well with the mustard so this is still a nice flexible sauce.
Pretty delicious, I’m looking forward to trying more.
