Working through my backlog of sauces I purchased months ago but haven’t had a chance to open yet, I popped open this bottle of Butterfly Bakery of Vermont Dutchess Mystery Pepper hot sauce a couple days ago, and wish I’d opened it sooner because it’s amazing!
According to the bottle this was a spontaneous wild hybrid of Ghost Peppers and something else on the farm that they discovered was delicious so they ran with it.
It does have that ghost pepper flavor with the characteristic smokiness and earthiness but it’s balanced out by a very prominent fruitiness that’s reminiscent of the fruitier Scotch Bonnet peppers.
Heat level is a little less than a pure ghost pepper, but this is still a good 5-6 out of 10 on the chile head heat scale, so pretty damn hot if you’re new without much tolerance yet.
Super tasty though, this is an “order it now” type of sauce as far as my recommendations go.
