Mom’s One-of-a-Kind Homemade Chili

No one makes chili quite like Mom. This is her own tried-and-true recipe, made the way she’s always done it—simple, hearty, and full of flavor. Using canned sauces and her special touch, the result is a rich, thick chili that you won’t find anywhere else.

This isn’t fancy or restaurant-style chili—it’s real homemade comfort food, cooked with care and perfected over the years. Thick, filling, and packed with taste, this is the kind of chili that warms you right to the bone and keeps everyone coming back for seconds.

If you love old-fashioned home cooking and family recipes that don’t come from a book, this one’s for you.

  1. Ok. Mom's jumper..WOW! That's a piece of art. Never seen one like that ever. Chili contest at our legion coming up and I'm watching this video like anything. Back to video.

  2. Because of you, I know what I'm making this Weekend. My Goodness, that looks DELICIOUS.
I love that you looked in the camera when Mother said that to you. 😅

  3. Love your videos. Has your Mother ever though of getting a vegetable chopper off Amazon? There are different attachments and the clean up is easy. I have two and they chop/slice/dice and there are different size attachment that come with it. I have two and they are amazing and quick. Take Care and keep the video's coming.

  4. Yeah like you said in the beginning there's a million ways to make Chilli and I don't know if I've made it the same way twice , from the way you did it cooking things separately or at stages , fry meat first, then onions , garlic , so on so forth to like you said throw it all in the slow cooker or pot and let it go all day, depending on the kind of day I'm having lol.
Ohh ohhh hard time cleaning for you coming up lol.
Another great video, we enjoy the dialog between you and your mother as much as the cooking …. but I'm still here looking at the kitchen wondering what I can get for a snack lol. Hope you guys have an awesome week

  5. Another great video
The chilli looked yummy even though I don’t like chilli🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️lol
I chuckled when your mom asked were u sighing at her & u said no but u deserves a few sighs😂😂
Keep those videos coming, I love them
    Have a blessed evening 🤗🙌

  6. Love Chilli, made some for Tibbs Eve , large pot , very similar to moms chili , and yes
I had a tbl spoon of sugar , sometimes the sauce can be a little tart!
Nice on a cold evening , comfort food .

  7. I can't eat savory neither so now I use parsley instead in fish cakes/cornbeef cakes everything even dressing the best I think better then savory

  8. I certainly love you guys! Your mom gives me the chuckles, and I love the “look” you give the camera when your mom says or does a certain thing lol. Keep up the great work, you are our weekly entertainment 😊loves it !! That chilli looks amazing!

  9. Yes garlic ❤👍. The jar stuff loses flavour, gets too funky for me after a couple days. I don't pay much more for the pre-peeled pods that's in styrofoam trays. Freezes good, and can grate while still frozen. Works good for fresh ginger too. Just have to take the skin off the ginger before freezing.
My mom never uses the garlic press – says it makes the garlic taste "angry".

  10. YOUR chili looks very appetizing and delicious, just what the doctor ordered on a cold winters day. I pretty much make my chili the same way, but I do add a can of Busches "Original" baked beans — it gives it a little sweetness and cuts down the tang from the tomato. Add a nice cheese bun alongside your bowl of chili and you're all set. Your mother has you under her spell … the look you give says it all. Lol

  11. Here's "Mom's One-of-a-Kind Homemade Chili" recipe from the video:

    Ingredients:
    Ground beef (0:15)
    Avocado oil (1:32)
    Onion, diced (2:28)
    Bell peppers, diced (2:59)
    Mushrooms (canned) (15:00)
    Garlic paste (12:47)
    Red kidney beans, drained (13:50)
    Tomato sauce (11:53)
    Campbell's tomato soup (13:02)
    Poppy Ray's Salt-Free Seasoning & Rub (15:36)
    Chili powder (21:48)
    Sugar (21:11)
    Salt (optional, in moderation) (5:47)

    Instructions:
    1. Brown the Meat: Add ground beef to a cast iron wok with a bit of avocado oil and brown it (1:09).
    2. Sauté Aromatics: In a separate pan, sauté diced onions (4:52), then add diced bell peppers (5:27), and finally the garlic paste (4:18) and mushrooms (17:53). It’s important to fry these separately rather than simmering everything in one pot (3:19).
    3. Combine and Season: Add the sautéed onions, peppers, mushrooms, and garlic to the browned ground beef (19:16).
    4. Add Sauces and Beans: Incorporate the drained red kidney beans, tomato sauce, and Campbell's tomato soup into the meat mixture (19:16).
    5. Seasoning: Season with Poppy Ray's Salt-Free Seasoning & Rub (16:17), chili powder (21:48) (use sparingly to avoid overpowering the flavor), and a tablespoon of sugar (22:26). Add a little salt to the meat if desired (5:47), but be mindful of sodium from canned sauces (5:50).
    6. Simmer: Stir everything together and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes (26:16) until it reaches a thick consistency (24:32).
    7. Taste Test: Taste and adjust seasonings as needed (25:10). The chili should be flavorful but not overly spicy (25:47).

  12. Another great video! Starved now. Jim you keep getting better and better with the editing. Everything is seamless!

  13. Is there a reason you don’t fry out the onions and peppers with the meat? I’ve never seen anyone fry it separately and then add it in afterwards. Looks delicious! Put me in the mood for chili, I’ll have to make some soon! I like mine a bit spicy.
