HOW TO MAKE CHILI / Chili Challenge / CHILI RECIPE GROUND BEEF

How to make chili and sharing our chili recipe using ground beef is what this video is all about. I want to share my chili recipe for Southern Roots CHILI CHALLENGE. It honestly couldn’t have come at a better time. Our weather is changing and the cold is starting to roll in, that means the good warm your belly comfort food recipes will start rolling out. You don’t have to be a great chef to cook a great meal at home.

We have compiled all our recipes into one “How to Cook” playlist. Most, if not all our recipes will be simple, cheap and easy to follow. Many of the ingredients that we’ll be using we have grown or harvested here on Abundant Acres Homestead.

RECIPE:
2 lbs ground beef (cooked and drained)
2-3 cans of chili beans (or dried bean recipe below)
1 medium onion (chopped)
2-3 cans of tomato sauce (or 1 qt homemade)

*all spices are to taste*

2 heaping tsp minced garlic
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp salt
1tsp oregano
3 Tbsp onion flakes
2 tsp beef bouillion

Combine all the ingredients in one pot (or slow cooker) and cook on low for at least 4 hours (the longer it simmers the better it tastes in my opinion)

Red Bean Recipe:
A couple decent handfuls of dried red beans soak overnight, rinse and drain
Bring beans to a boil for about 10 minutes, rinse and drain.
Put beans in a pot just cover about 1 inch with water. Add preferred seasoning. Bring to a boil then cover and let simmer for about 60-90 minutes.

For years we enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, gathering eggs, raising pigs and enjoying our land. We got overwhelmed and ended it all. Since then we’ve thought things through and have decided to reinvent our little “homestead” if you will.

Take the journey with us a see some of our favorite parts of the adventure.
