If you said vegetarian, yeah, I can definitely support that. While I like chicken, al pastor, etc., I can still do vegetarian. In fact, I think we could all benefit from a bit less meat and a bit more plant based diets.
But to have fake cheese, fake sour cream, and whatever else is vegan is too far for me.

Some mole has chocolate which comes from cows, it very tricky to be vegan in Mexico. So much food is rooted in animal products either directly or indirectly like mole, even som chilaquiles use chicken broth to enhance the flavor.

Oh absolutely. I live in Mexico and get vegan lunches delivered every day from a local biz. Vegan pozole, vegan enfrijoladas, and many more. I’m not a vegan but I love it.

Edit: There are many dishes that consist of only vegetable ingredients, but the only dish I heard includes the word vegan on its name it’s vegan pozole.

No. One needs animal proteins to build muscle and plant proteins aren’t as bioavailable. Plant protein is fine on a bulk but recomping on plant protein is nigh impossible.

Omg that looks soo good!!! I’ve been vegetarian for about two and a half years and my MIL makes the most amazing Mexican food. She’s been so sweet and accommodating when I made my transition! She cooks so many vegan and vegetarian recipes for me and it’s the best!! I think my favorite vegan dish she makes me is pozole 🤤

Man, a lot of spiciness in this thread. As someone who was on a pretty strict vegan diet for a while, I’m always impressed when people create amazing things with non-meat as the foundation. I found cdmx does incredible things with and without meats. Have you tried La Pitahaya Vegana and Por Siempre Vegana?
