Tortilla Chips served with Coleslaw ‘dip’

This past week, my girlfriend and I went back to her home town in Ohio and went to a local mexican restaurant who happened to serve their chips and salsa with coleslaw. I was very intrigued as growing up on the west coast and part Mexican myself, I had never seen this before. I asked her if she knew or why they did this and she said her and her friends never questioned it. Now I’m not here to knock it or to say that I love it. I just want to know if others have seen something like this? I’m just curious how tortilla chips and coleslaw was paired together. I’ve looked online and see nothing online about it. Wondering if it local to the Midwest?

Nope. Never. But if the nacho can hold it…

    Sounds like some Ohio shit.

For the record I’m from Chicago which is also Midwest, and I’ve never seen this before.

Ohio has some strange recipes. This may be one of them.

The one I can’t believe is Chili with spaghetti

I’m originally from Columbus and have never heard or seen this. Wild to say the least. Ohio has some absolutely great Mexican food however due to the large agricultural element there.

Chili isn’t really chili on spaghetti. If you’ve ever had Greek Pastisio then you’ll get it. Fucking delicious but then again, I am from Ohio.

Living in the Midwest, and I’ve never heard of this. I love going to our local restaurant and hearing people say, ‘I’ll take some of that white cheese dip.” 🤦‍♀️

i live in northwestern mexico and coleslaw is fairly common as a topping for taco fish here but yeah, this is a completely different context lol

What did you think of the combination? You said you didn’t want to knock it but didn’t love it either. What was your opinion of it? I love Cole slaw and tortilla chips so I think it’s “interesting “ though, can’t say I would have ever thought to combine them.

This is a thing in Modesto, CA. I lived there a number of years ago and one spot did it really well (w/o mayo and not coleslaw flavor) and others that did it like this.

The local Mexican restaurants in my small town do this as well and yes, their food is terrible.

Checking my post and answering questions
    1) The restaurant that served this is called Los Gallos and has several locations in Ohio.
    2) Where I stayed at was more so in the rural area near Youngstown, Ohio. I only know about this city because the San Francisco 49ers have ties to Youngstown.
    3) The menu itself at Los Gallos was interesting, served most of their dishes with cheese sauce topped on it. I avoided those dishes because I had an interesting experience in another small town location in Clarksville, Tennessee where they put cheese sauce onto my taco salad w/ a tomato slice. My girlfriends got their chicken which was covered in chorizo and cheese sauce. Her chicken was over cooked. Her friends got carne asada fries. Big ice cream scoop of guacamole in the middle with pieces of steak on top of french fries, which were also on top of tortilla chips.
    3) Did I like it? The chips they had weren’t the freshest and taste like they were store bought. The dip itself was okay. Would I try it at home? It’s a hard pass as I just think there are better options to do. Now why I’m not knocking it, is that my girlfriend’s friends like the dip and has them wanting to try more Mexican food. So I can appreciate it if it means more people are willing to go out of their comfort zone and try different cuisines.

I live in Durango, but have also lived in Zacatecas, CDMX and Guadalajara. I have travelled extensively all over Mexico and have never seen anything like this. WTAF. And also, yuck.

Is weed legal in Ohio? That is the only logical thing I can think of.
