I’ve lived in Indiana for the past fiveish years, and now live on a marine base, so my ability to get actually spicy salsa/sauce has been non-existent. So I bit the bullet, got myself a little blender and dove in! Came out so spicy and delicious, and I can’t wait to try out different types of salsa in this! I’ll post recipe in a comment 🙂

So I used this recipe: https://peasandcrayons.com/2013/03/spicy-salsa-verde.html as a ‘base’ but honestly modified it super heavily to what I had bought, and for the size of my blender, modify as needed in regards to how much you want to make!
– 3 tomatillas, husked
– 2 jalapenos
– 1 habanero
– half of 1 white onion
– like… Four? Five? Cloves of garlic.
– olive oil (vegetable oil would probably work too.)
– vinegar ( I used both white and apple cider just… Cos I was honestly experimenting. )
– cumin
– salt
Oven at 400, roast the tomatillas, jalapenos, habanero, onion and garlic. I did about 20minutes and got some ‘charring’ on the peppers, and bottoms of tomatillas. Not so much garlic but it made it easier to smash. Onion was also just soft, and I only used a few layers.
Let tomatillas sit for about 10minutes. Add your oil, and vinegar to the bottom of your blender (if you’re using a personal blender like I am.) I also cut up the onions, and jalapenos to better fit. Habanero was small enough it didn’t matter. Removed stems as well. Smashed garlic cloves
Once the tomatillas are done resting, cut those into quarters.
Layered tomatillas on top of the oil/vinegar, then the jalapeno/habanero, onions and smashed garlic. Use pulse mode until it’s smooth and consistent. Then just add salt according to your taste, and more vinegar if you’d like. And then at the end, add in some cumin. I didn’t measure any of this exactly – I used my heart 🙂 but I love cumin personally, and it DOES add a nice smokiness that isn’t overwhelming! (I do not like salsas that smack you in the face with smokiness.) Then just keep pulsing until desired consistency!
I did forget to add lime juice in my excitement that my first time came out so well. I’d probably add some next time at the end.
I originally roasted two habaneros, but the one was honestly enough, but this can of course be modified to suit your tastes, so if you want that extra habanero – add it! 🙂
Should add – this made about 2 cups ish? My blender is for 16oz. Just enough for me as my husbands not quite ready for this level of spice and while my son seems to be taking after me, he’s only one and I’m not cruel 😂
thanks to the sub for the info post because while I had the recipe above, I felt comfy knowing from the infographics that I could play around with it!
After making my own salsa for the first time, I can’t stand the jarred stuff anymore. Amazing results for how simple a process it is.
The blendjet is perfect for camping! $50 for two at Costco right now.
