I Ordered a hard shell taco and when I touched the shell it was so hard(no homo) it’s like I’m touching a stone so I came home and ate one taco I forgot about the other one 10 minutes later I was going to take the bag in the trash but I noticed I forgot the other one that I forgot to eat so I came back in the living room and ate the other one i noticed it felt soggy so I had to give it to my dog are Taco Bell hard shells like this?

It’s just the reality of heat, moisture and practically anything crunchy. This isn’t just a Taco Bell thing. You have a hot item in a bag, wrapped up.. it’ll constantly be steaming the item while it’s warm. Not to mention the moisture from the meat sauce which has a moderate amount of water and obviously some grease in it. Those just sit there against the shell, softening it up. And.. finally, it naturally becomes stale over time anyway. Add all those factors together and you have a definitive timer on those shells before they go bad.
If you’re worried about not having enough time to eat them or thinking you might have leftovers, eat the crunchy items first, always. Or get some soft tacos.
They just won’t, it’s physics mostly. If I eat anything crunchy like a hard taco I eat it there because it will get soggy inside 5 mins.
It’s the most simple science.

The initial water activity of the tortilla is a lot lower than the filling. As water moves from the filling to the tortilla, the glass transition temperature of the tortilla drops and you get a soft tortilla.

If you wrap your lips on it, it’s pretty hard. It’s only soft when you use your teeth.
Because TB doesn’t actually fry their taco shells, like any other place would. They are fried in the factory, and then warmed up right before they are served. The same way you would make them at home if you bought pre made store bought shells.
A properly fresh fried taco shell will still get soggy after a while, but it takes longer because the oil in the shell acts like a moisture barrier to keep the shell crisp longer once exposed to the moist ingredients.
Wrapping a taco in waxed paper and then putting it in a bag just makes it worse because steam from the filling will sog out the tortilla faster.
Eat them in the store or in the parking lot within a few minutes of ordering, or just resign yourself to soggy shells.

The most glorious thing that ever happened to me was when I got 2 hard shells for my taco. I think 1 was broke so they just gave me 2 and boy howdy did that make a huge difference.
It would not be normal for that shell to stay hard with all the wet and steaming hot meat in it. Not to mention the lettuce and tomatoes that soak into the shell over time. You ever had a taco from Mexico? They are all soft.
