This question came up at work. And I was wondering if I can get an answer to this. Is it still Chicharrones if you add a bit of hot sauce on it? What if you add a bit of barbecue sauce on it? Why is it different if it is? Is it still chicharrones if you eat it with guacamole like the current “trend”? And is that different and why?

One of the rebuttals I heard was, places like Thailand, India, and Japan have curry. But in flavor and method, they are very different. Yet they are still called Curry nonetheless. Another person said something about hot sauce being a condiment and barbecue sauce being the same. All the Mexican coworkers disagreed so I wanna get a bigger audience and opinion on this.
Guacamole with chicharrón is not a trend, you’re just barely finding out.
Chicharrónes and hot sauce go hand in hand
Hot sauce is pretty common if you don’t have fresh made salsa. I don’t know about bbq sauce though.
En México es muy común el chicharrón en salsa (verde o roja). Y no por combinarlo con la salsa deja de ser chicharrón…
I don’t know why they wouldn’t, chicharrones and salsa go hand in hand.
Tomatoes boiled with Serrano pepper and s slice of onion
Blend, add chopped tomatoes, cilantro, and chopped onions.
They sell those in the streets
Chicharrón is not the name of a dish, it is just a way to prepare some parts of the pig, you can then do whatever with those and they still are chicharrones
Chicharrónes and hot salsa is traditional, so is pairing with guac. Youre free to do what you want though, bbq ‘em up.
You’re eating it. Put whatever you want on it.
Omg with some lime!! That’s all you need.
“Current trend” boy, im 43 and been eating chicharrones with guacamole since then.
That looks more caribbean than Mexican. Mexican chicharrón is made with the skin of the pig
Had to stop reading this whole damm thread…I’m on a damm diet
It’s still chicharones no matter what you put on it
